What do all the different types of counselling mean?

Over many years different individuals have evolved alternative ways to deliver help for life issues via talking therapies. These will dictate the way a therapist works, as it is the training which informs their practice. However, therapists also bring their personality, life experience, personal beliefs and human flaws. Discussing these with a therapist and exploring what feels best can help resolve any issue one might have over style and training or what is fashionable at the time.

How do I know I will be listened to and get the help I require?

The BACP set out very clear guidelines which impose strict standards of practice on their members. Does this mean every therapist will necessarily ‘get you?’ It’s impossible to say. If you want to find out, use our free telephone service and find out for yourself. If you feel understood and listened too, with a sense of hope at the end of the call, you can assess this for your self.

All work undertaken will be contracted directly with each client. All work will be reviewed at intervals to maintain consistency and transparency and a code of best practice. Work is conducted according to ethical guidelines as set down by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. Edward Conn is a registered member and works according to BACP ethical codes of good practice.
